AI's Hot Ball of Money is In Hardware Right Now
Dear Artisan,
The AI industry is a hot ball of money right now.
That hot ball of money has decided the next frontier: hardware. Every day we see a new startup with a nine-figure raise at a multibillion-dollar valuation.
All of this with one goal in mind: do not let Microsoft and NVIDIA take complete control of this industry. If they accelerate hard enough, there will be no catching up.
Halio is trying to do just that, with a fresh $120 million raise to build out new specialized AI hardware.
Let’s dive in.
Hot Off The Press
Hailo raises $120M in funding for generative AI accelerator and edge devices
TSMC plans to begin pilot production at its 1st Arizona, USA fab by mid-April
GPT-4 may not have passed the BAR exam after all
Apple researchers develop AI that can ‘see’ and understand screen context
Amazon offers free credits for startups to use AI models including Anthropic
The One Big Thing
Hailo Technologies Ltd., an Israeli innovator in artificial intelligence chip manufacturing, recently closed a colossal $120 million funding round. This comes a day after news that Microsoft and OpenAI are building a $100 billion supercomputer.
The acceleration is coming for hardware now as well.
This funding shows the market's interest in Hailo's unique approach to AI chip design, notably through its latest creation, the Hailo-10 processor. The Hailo-10 stands out for its low power consumption tailored for AI-driven services, including the sophisticated language models that are the backbone of today's chatbots and generative AI tools.
Hailo's strategy is clear. By focusing on edge computing, the company empowers devices like smartphones and robots with local, real-time AI processing capabilities, mitigating the dependence on distant data centers. This innovation is not merely a technological advancement; it's a strategic maneuver aiming to equip a broad spectrum of AI applications—from real-time translation to content generation—directly onto personal and edge devices without compromising power efficiency.
We are going to see a lot more of this going forward. He who has the compute will win, and the arms race is just starting.

LLM evaluation based on recipes…this is genius
we all know how important LLM evaluation is.. 🤔
i’m excited to FINALLY announce that we are starting a new 📢 recipe-based evals team!!! 📢
for our first study, we compared 5 LLM-generated chili recipes with the prompt: “Give me a chili recipe with an interesting twist” (1/n)
