Instagram, WhatsApp & Google Photos All Get AI Upgrades
Zuck trying to act human
Dear Artisan,
Remember the good old days of 2010, when everyone and their brother was launching an iPhone app?
It’s now happening for AI. And it’s not going to stop anytime soon.
We will be living in a world where every influencer has an AI version of themselves, where AI-based apps are just called apps, and where the things we have at our fingertips feel like what would have been considered magic not long ago.
That future begins by every big tech company integrating AI into everything they do, a process that has already begun and is accelerating. Today, we bring you 3 new AI rollouts that change the way we interact quite dramatically: Google Photos, Instagram AI, and WhatsApp AI.
Let’s dive in.
Meta AI
I’m going to lump WhatsApp and Instagram into one, because Meta AI is the force powering both of these tools.
Over the weekend, Meta released its AI tools across both platforms to select countries such as Nigeria and India. Now, these are products with approximately half the world’s population using them (if you include Facebook.)
While ChatGPT introduced tech-forward individuals to AI, this could be the one that does it for the masses.
You can ask it stuff in chats with friends as well

This is when things start getting really crazy, when every kid on every corner of the earth has access to a high-end AI model from the comfort of their pocket.
Early reports on the tools are basic, with standard questions around Meta’s ability to access private data (they say no), and the data that is has been trained on previously.
While this is not the case as of yet, simple summarization tools that let you know what is happening in your group chats without being constantly plugged in will be a huge step up in the human readability of the overloaded, text-based chats that we operate today.
Bonus: It looks a lot like Perplexity…

Google Photos
As much as we like to poke fun at Google and its mishaps in the space, there is no denying how much potential there is for the company to take mindshare and users from the rest of the field.
Everywhere you look, Google has the best data, the best technology (maybe), and the most resources.
So, instead of taking big swings like releasing new chat applications that beat OpenAI, maybe they take a more measured approach and release their AI tools slowly and quietly.
This weekend, they shared AI for Google Photos, which includes features that let you edit, organize, and collaborate on photos much more easily than before.

Now, imagine when the above two tools get merged into one.
A world where you can capture video, search through all of your previous videos, and create cool montages and clips with AI edits with a few clicks?
It’s coming sooner than you think.
