Meta Releases New Llama 3 Model, Integrates Across All Apps
Dear Artisan,
Meta’s Llama 3 is finally here.
After months of waiting, many teases, and a recent announcement of AI integrations across all of its applications, Meta has open-sourced two new generative models, and the results look quite astonishing so far.
Let’s dive in.

Llama 3’s Performance vs. Open Models
Today’s issue will be a little different.
There is little commentary to add as this news dropped less than 30 minutes ago. You heard it here first, folks. Instead, I’m going to curate and summarize the most relevant early reports and tests.
The largest models, tuned with over 400 billion parameters, performs better than the best-in-class right now:
The craziest LLaMA 3 reveal:
The 400B+ version of the model is **on par with Claude 3 Opus**, and it's still training.
Soon, we'll have a better-than-Opus, fully open-source model.
The implications are huge. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

One theory on why this could be the case is the fact that Meta has more data than almost anyone on the planet. Despite potentially being behind on research, they might be able to make up the difference by brute forcing massive amounts of data to train and tune their models with.

We wrote earlier in the week about what it means broadly for the world when 3 billion people get access to a powerful AI model in their pocket.
Looks like it’s time to find out.
